Clues in the bagWhen Sidney Nolan left for London in 1953, his studio in the Sydney suburb of Wahroonga remained untouched until 2007 when his daughter, Jinx, donated the contents to the Art Gallery of NSW. One treasure is the satchel used for Nolan's painting expeditions. Old paint, brushes and test panels provide clues as to how he created his art. If you know of such material, especially any associated with known artists, contact conservator Paula Dredge from the AGNSW artists materials archive at paulad@ag.nsw.gov.au.Tools of the tradeFrom the end of this month, online broker E*TRADE will be offering an integrated share trading tax reporting service to its retail customers. The Tax Tools Standard service provides a summary of each investor's tax position for their E*TRADE activities. This free service is available to Australian residents who traded in equities, warrants, options or exchange-traded funds last financial year.Vehicle gas grantsIf you'd rather not pay for petrol at any price, the Government's LPG Vehicle Scheme offers grants of $2000 for conversion of existing vehicles or to buy new LPG vehicles. If you've already changed over, the grant may still apply providing your application is lodged within 12 months of conversion or purchase.Business with soulA brochure promoting the NSW Office of Fair Trading has obviously been written by someone with soul. It says: "... for example, you would not have to register your business name if it was 'James Brown', however you would have to register your name if it was 'James Brown Artefacts'."
